The Sofia International Film Festival is the biggest film festival in Bulgaria and one of the key film events in Central and Eastern Europe drawing large crowds each year. The programme of the 14th edition will include the following sections: official programme (international competition and special screenings), documentary programme (competition), Bulgarian feature films, Balkan films showcase, European screen, World screen, Bulgarian shorts, retrospectives and tributes, and special events. Films will be screened at venues such as the Cinema House and the National Palace of Culture.
A smaller event hosted within the annual film festival, Sofia Meetings will take place from the 11th to the 14th of March, 2010. This event is geared toward the promotion of new projects by up and coming European filmmakers and consist of two modules: Second Films Pitching – a presentation of second feature film projects looking for financial support and cooperation, and Balkan Screenings – a showcase of the latest Bulgarian and regional films for directors and programmers from different international festivals, world sales companies, and journalists.
