In autumn, the days are short in Bulgaria, and if you go on vacation and want to make the most of the long nights and live music, then you should not miss the Ambul Festival in Sofia. It is a festival of American and Bulgarian music, where performers and composers from the US and Europe will gather to showcase new music. The first edition of the Ambul Festival was held in 1998 and only American and Bulgarian artists participated in it, however this year’s festival will include artists from other Balkan countries, making it much more attractive to tourists and locals as there is more variety!
The Ambul Festival takes place at the Boris Christoff Music Centre, a center created in 2003 by the Ministry of Culture in Bulgaria. It was named in honor of Boris Christoff, one of the best opera performers in Bulgaria. The center also hosts various musical and cultural events as well as exhibitions of clothing, letters, paintings and other objects belonging to Boris Christoff, making your visit to Sofia much more exciting!
In the 2009 edition of the Festival Ambul there were famous artists like Alexandra Karastoyanov-Hermentin, Athanasia Tzanou, Frosh Quartet and the ethno-rock band Golog poetry. In this year’s edition, there will be performances from different artists such as Dobri Hristov, Mihail Goleminov, and Balyozov Roumen and many others.
